About this Event

Start your Independence Day the right way with a 5k! Join friends, family and neighbors for a morning celebration featuring ice cold watermelon and American pride. 

Military Personnel and family receive a $10 discount and a special bib!

Restrictions- Safety is our first priority!

Bicycles, roller skates, in-line skates, and dogs will be prohibited from the race course. The use of headphones is discouraged.

Stroller Restrictions

• Stroller/jogger operators start behind designated stroller signage.
• Stroller/jogger operators may walk/jog no faster than 15 minute per mile, a safe operating speed. If your speed goes faster than 15 minutes per mile pace, you may be disqualified.
• Stroller/jogger operators must yield the right of way to runners. Stroller/Joggers can tip easily and cannot turn quickly. Please do not weave through packs of runners.

  • Online registration available until 8:00 am on Saturday, July 2. Register at Track Shack on Saturday; Track Shack is closed on Sunday, You can also register at the race on Monday! 
  • If you register online during packet pick up days your packet will be available the next day at 10:00 a.m.

  • Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Watermelon 5k Team Challenge

Create a team and show your support of our local military! The team with the most participants (minimum 15) will have a $500.00 donation made on their behalf to a local 501© (3) organization that supports military service.

Charitable examples may include i.e. active, reserve, veterans, wounded service personnel, military families or ROTC organizations. Results of the team competition and check presentation will be announced on race day at 6:45 am. 

What makes up a team? Any corporate or civic group can form a team.

Registered 5k participants receive a short sleeved, unisex t-shirt. 

Wear yours on race day in the spirit of the holiday!

Kids' Run

Kids' runs are free for all children. Distances range from 100 to 400 yards and children will be placed in age appropriate groups. Registration is on race day at race site. The first 150 registered participants will receive a T-shirt. The Kids’ Runs start and finish at the finish line.

You are automatically entered into a chance to WIN! Staycation open to military personnel and family 18 and over. Winner is chosen at the event. Thank you for your service!

Food Drive

We’re collecting non-perishable food items for the Orlando VA Medical Center’s VSO Food Pantry. 
Our goal is 1000 food items! Collected items are to be brought to the race.

10th Annual Watermelon Eating Contest

3 men & 3 women will be chosen to participate in our Watermelon Eating Contest. Contest will begin at 8:00 am. All interested participants may sign up on race day at the Track Shack tent. Contestant names will be randomly selected and announced at 7:50 am.

Top male and female winners receive festive watermelon merchandise.

Watermelon Queens

Florida and Alabama Watermelon Queens will be coming to the Watermelon 5k for meet and greet opportunities and to preside over the Watermelon Eating Contest!

The beautiful 3.1 mile course starts on Park Ave. and runs through some of the best streets of Winter Park.

Limited race day side street parking available near Park Avenue. Free all day parking available in 7 municipal parking lots within one block of Park Avenue. Two parking garages available:

1) New York Ave. at W. Canton Ave (free parking)
2) South Park Avenue at Lyman (paid parking)

The OneOrlando Fund, a project of Strengthen Orlando, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, was created to help respond to the needs of our community, now and in the time to come, after the effects of the Pulse nightclub tragedy. The distribution of the funds will be administered by the Central Florida Foundation. The Foundation serves as the region’s community foundation and is home to more than 400 charitable funds.

Track Shack Foundation, a local, 501c(3) organization that promotes health and fitness with an emphasis on youth programs.

The first 3,000 finishers receive a mini flag from Track Shack!

In the festive spirit of the holiday, the Watermelon 5k is a non-scored fun-run for runners and walkers of all ages. Top 10 male and female finishers will receive awards. No other times will be recorded. Participants are able to get their finish times from the overhead clock at the finish line.
