Garbage Day on the Run
My run this morning was enhanced by the goodness of a local garbage man. I always enjoy waving hello to my garbage men - my run takes me through the streets of both Orange County and the City of Orlando so I have the opportunity on Mondays to see two companies out keeping our neighborhoods clean. But this morning, one man in particular really touched my heart and reminded me that all of us need to be mindful of our neighbors, especially our older ones.
The city trucks have that machine that lifts up each can. Yes, sometimes they get damaged as the machine sets them down a little hard. We’ve all had that happen. But the machine means the driver doesn’t have to get out to do any lifting, but today this one driver not only stopped the truck, he got out and walked all the way up a long driveway and pulled the garbage can down to the truck. As I watched this, I realized this was a house where an elderly couple lived as I often run by this house since it is a couple miles from home. But I was just so impressed with this driver, the extra time and work he did to help these people out.
I finished my run with a smile on my face. Garbage men are really part of our community so don’t forget to wave next time you run by their truck.
See you on the roads,
Betsy
