Team Track Shack has been selected. Each year a new group of seven men and seven women from the community will be selected to represent Team Track Shack. We are excited to introduce the Team Track Shack 2007-2008:

Not only does Nathan work on the retail side of Track Shack, but he also dedicates his time as a Five and Dime coach for the Track Shack Foundation Training Programs. Before Track Shack, Nathan attended and graduated from Florida State University, where he earned a degree in Physical Education and Health. He also ran for Florida State University and was First Team All Region in Cross Country. When he's not working or coaching he
enjoys a long run and spending time with his wife Misty.

PAT MARSHALL

Pat has been running competitively since he joined his high schools cross-country team 17 years ago. He attended Baldwin-Wallace College, a small Division III school just outside of Cleveland, Ohio in 1999. While there, Pat ran cross country and track, earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference in both track and cross country as well as All-Great Lakes Region Honors in cross country. After graduating, Pat pursued and received a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology at FSU. After moving to Orlando, Pat's running achievements include, 3-Time Winner of IOA Corporate 5K, 1st Place 2005 OUC Half-Marathon, 3-Time Winner of Miracle Miles 15K, 2nd Place Overall 2004-05 Track Shack Grand Prix Series.

RENE PLASENCIA

Rene started running at Westridge Middle School in southwest Orlando in the 8th grade. He ran competetively at Dr. Phillips high school and went on to run at the University of Central Florida. For the past 7 years he has coached at Colonial High School. In is spare time, Rene enjoys running and swimming.

John began his running career for his middle school track team. After running non-competitively for over 20 years he has dedicated the last 3 years of training and running with the ultimate goal... to keep smoking Mike Day. When he's not running races and training with Track Shack training programs, John enjoys competing in Triathlons. Most weekends are spent training in one of the 3 disciplines. John's inspiration for running comes from his lovely wife Jeanne and their two beautiful children Joseph and Allyson.

Michael last ran competitively as a senior in high school, in 1976. He spent the last thirty years building a construction company and raising his daughter. Both endeavors have brought him pride beyond his wildest dreams. His daughter attends the University of Central Florida. Last year Michael started running again with the help of Track Shack. During his training he has rediscovered a long lost passion. Michael is dedicating this season to his brothers, Mark and Mitch.

GARY COHEN

Gary Cohen returns to Team Track Shack this year where he has been a member over 15 times since the early 1980s. Gary has been a mainstay in central Florida racing circles since 1983, highlighted by placing second overall in the 1987-88 Track Shack Grand Prix and winning the Master's title in 2000-01. He placed fourth overall in the inaugural Winter Park Road Race in 1978 while placing eight overall at the 30th anniversary edition of the race in 2007. A Central Florida resident for over 18 years, he resides in Apopka with his two daughters, Monica and Valleri, both students at Valencia Community College. Currently he writes short stories on running topics for Florida Running and Triathlon. His hobbies include playing guitar, songwriting, photography and travel.

His all-time personal bests include: mile – 4:17; 2-mile – 9:14; 5k – 14:44; 10k – 30:28; 15k – 46:49; ½-marathon – 1:08:13 and marathon – 2:22:34. In 2007 at age 49 his performances include: mile – 4:56; 5k – 16:49; 10k – 35:19; 15k – 55:38; ½-marathon – 1:21:06 and marathon – 2:51:17.

DARLA BENNETT

Darla is a Certified Personal Trainer, group fitness instructor and Certified Pilates coach in Altamonte Springs. She lives with her husband Dave, a Chiropractor in Altamonte. She has three children, all in their twenties, out of college and on their own. Facing and surviving a diagnosis of breast cancer in 1993 (at age 35), Darla took an interest in running a few years later (at age 39). Her first 5k was Lady Track Shack, after only running for two weeks. Putting her best foot forward for the cause, she clocked a time of 30:28. In 1997, Darla’s brought home her first trophy for being the youngest survivor at Race for the Cure. Since then, Darla has run 5 marathons, qualified for the Boston Marathon twice, run many half marathons, and runs a 5k, 10k, or 15k almost every weekend. She has won the Masters division of the Grand Prix series several times. Also an avid cyclist, Darla has done Century rides, along with a few MS bike tours. She teaches spin classes weekly and enjoys the local bike trails on weekends. Recently, she has been Pilates training a few Orlando Magic players and helping her daughter, Amber, to start her own Pilates studio in Jacksonville. Core training is great for running!

KATHY GAGNIER

Hometown: Nashville, TN
Happily married since 1988 and now with two teenagers, Kathy ran her first 10k in 1976 and has been hooked ever since. She has participated in Track Shack races for the last 25+ years, and has won the Series Point competition in her age group as well as the Masters’ category a few times. As well as running, Kathy has enjoyed coaching her sons’ middle school cross-country team. In 2005, Kathy was diagnosed with Type I diabetes, but made light of the situation by getting involved with Team Type I, a team comprised of diabetic cyclists, runners and tri-athletes who encourage all diabetic’s to maintain a lifestyle of fitness and healthy eating. On top of this, Kathy has completed 8 marathons and has qualified twice and ran the Boston Marathon. In her spare time she and her husband are training for a full ironman in April 2008.

MAITE MOSCOSO

MaiteMaite, has always had a passion for sports, but never thought she could run, until her daughter joined a local track club. She started jogging with her daughter and the group of kids at practice and passion for running quickly followed. In 2004 she ran her first 5K, and hasn't stopped ever since. As an individual and as a family, the Moscoso's enjoy being out on the roads. Running accomplishments:

NIKKI SHAW

NikkiNikki's running career started at age 9 in youth track with the long jump and 100 meters. Eventually moved up and ran the 800 and 1500 meters for Villanova University and Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo CA. Currently she is employed by Fidelity National Financial and travels about 50% of the time, primarily to California, so I always have great training routes. Other hobbies for Nikki include cycling, hiking, visiting her family’s avocado and orange farm in California, and spending time with her fiancé, Brent.

Larell grew up as a swimmer and received a scholarship to Brigham Young University. She began running in 1997 and completed her first marathon in 2001, Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska. She is the mother of three children ages 9, 7, and 2. During the summer she and her family go to their home state of Alaska to jet ski, fish and cool off.

HeatherHeather wears many hats as a wife, mother and competitive runner. Heather has been participating in Track Shack races since she was 16. You can spot her at most Track Shack races with her two beautiful daughters, Sarah, 10 and Amber, 3. She began running at age12, and went on to run for Colonial High School, and continued through the collegiate level at the University of Central Florida. She is a member of Orlando Runners Club, and went to Japan in 2000 for the Tokyo Bay, Urayasu 1/2 marathon and took 1st women overall. In her spare time she enjoys lifting weights, cycling, boating, going to the beach, and family. Other PR's include: 10K: 37:11, 1/2 marathon 1:25:22, marathon: 3:22:39

SARAH ROBERTSON

SarahShe is a graduate of Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Recreation Management. Sarah was a four-year varsity member of LHU's Cross-Country, Indoor and Outdoor track teams, and two-year team captain. Since moving to Florida Sarah has passionately dedicated her time to promoting health and fitness and living the same way. She has made the jump to longer distances by completing 2 ½ marathons, clocking a personal best of 1:28:00. She has also raced several 5k’s in addition to training for her first marathon later this year. Sarah enjoys being a coach and a group leader for MarathonFest. In her free time she likes to run trails and tryout new teas at local cafes with her friend Marcia.
