FEBRUARY
Share tips of how you keep your New Year’s fitness resolution, and make it work all year long.

Name: Richard Hudson
Tips: My tips for anyone wanting to keep a New Year’s resolution would be to do it for YOU. Every time I go to the gym and/or go running, I check in on Facebook. This is to remind me and to keep track how many times I go to the gym and/or running per week and throughout the year. I realized over time that any fitness goal has to be about you and not for any other person or reason. I use my own acronym of “TIFM”, which stands for “THIS IS FOR ME”. It gives me a good reminder of my purpose behind my fitness goals. My personal New Year’s resolution goals for this year are to run at minimum of 15 races (5K and 10K mixes) and 1 or 2 Half Marathons.
Other Tips:
1. Get Nike Plus (I use this to play my music and track my progress)
2. Change things up (Never do the same run each day, this way you keep things fresh)
3. Running Friend (Find a friend that will run with you and do races through Track Shack)
4. Set Goals (Set realistic goals so once you reach them, you can increase them)
5. Reward Yourself (Take time to give yourself kudos for accomplishments with your fitness goals. Things like new running shoes, new pair of shorts, mini vacation….)

JANUARY
Share how you stay healthy during the holidays! 2 winners were selected:

Name:
Shannon Chenoweth
Healthy Tip: For one, portions. You can have some goodies, but have one small slice of pie, not multiple or a huge one. This way, you are not depriving yourself. Secondly, simple swaps. Cook or bake with healthier options such as whole wheat bread instead of white. Lastly, remember that you should enjoy the holiday food fun, but also know that you need to work off those extra calories if you don't want to pack on the extra weight. If you know that eating an extra 500 calories is going to mean you need to spend an hour on the dreadmill, you might really think about what extra goodies you want. :)

Tell us about your favorite race t-shirt- Share a picture!

Name: Amanda Morehead submitted a photo of her Viking helmet which “is my favorite thing I've received from a race!” So we thought that was good enough!
Extra: “My fuzzy Viking helmet was from the Warrior Dash in January. Running the Warrior Dash started off a 40 pound and 2 pants size weight loss and gave me the courage to sign up for Marathonfest! I'm running my first half this weekend in Daytona and signed up for my first full- the Pittsburgh Marathon in May! It all started with a muddy warrior dash and a fuzzy Viking helmet!?”

Tell us about your favorite running experience!

Name: Lisa L. Durant
Favorite Running Experience:
"My favorite running experience? Crossing the finish line of my first 1/2 marathon in 2000 - Disney 1/2. I had finished with my cancer treatments in early 1999 and my doctor recommended I get my exercising completed outside while my immune system was rebuilding. I found a track near my house and started out walking. The chemo had affected my large muscle groups so I felt uncoordinated while making my way around the track. I slowly started to incorporate some running. I eventually found the training programs through Track Shack and trained properly for my first 1/2 under the expert guidance of miJ. As soon as I finished that first 1/2 I was hooked! I've since completed 3 full marathons, 3 sprint triathlons, numerous 1/2 marathons and 5k's. Who would have thought the simple words of "get your exercise completed outside" told me by my doctor almost 13 years ago would have lead to my running. :-)"
