Winning Ways for Workplace Wellness Contest.............

We want to recognize local companies that realize the benefits of creating healthy workplaces and who are willing to share their successes with others. Through our Winning Ways for Workplace Wellness Contest, company representatives are asked to contribute their workplace wellness best practices on the Corporate 5k Facebook Fan Page and help us build a culture of wellness around the Corporate 5k.

One company per month (Jan-April) will be selected as the featured company in the Company Spotlight for sharing their Winning Ways and will receive a continental breakfast for 25 delivered to the office courtesy of Firehouse Subs!

March 2012- Give an example(s) of how company participation in the C5K helps boost morale in your workplace?

Orlando Senior Health- Winner

Kim Seney Hooker: Orlando Senior Health Network made a commitment to wellness in 2012! We offer a complimentary campus fitness center for all employees and personal training for a small fee. We have qualified instructors that teach classes in Yoga, Zumba , Strength and Conditioning, Stretching, and Kick Boxing. We offer healthy meal alternatives to our employees on site and have massage therapy payroll deducted. When we heard about the Corporate 5k practically in our backyard we immediately decided to become a sponsor. Its a great way for us to promote our organization and continue our focus on wellness. We are encouraging all employees to participate and covering the cost for them. We started a Corporate 5k training group. We have groups that meet 3 different times during the day to walk/run around Lake Eola with a trainer to prepare for the upcoming event. Our employees are getting fit, having fun and are excited to participate in the Corporate 5k.

April 2012- What does your company do year round to keep the momentum going?

Fry Hammond Barr- Winner

Chase Neinken: Fry Hammond Barr loves the Corporate 5k and always has a great time at the event. Here are some steps a few of us have taken to promote healthy living and workplace wellness…

1. Walk to Talk – Instead of sending an e-mail or picking up the phone to reach a colleague, get up and walk over to their desk. Things get done quicker and you’re supporting your body!

2. Lunch Hour – Take the lunch hour to walk the beautiful mile long stroll around Lake Eola. When it is 75 degrees in February and the swans are out you can easily walk 2 or 3 miles before you even notice you are tired.

3. Fast Feet Friday – We blow off some steam at the end of the week with a classic dance off on our Nintendo Wii. A great way to have a laugh and get a workout in the office.

4. For the Birds – We keep any leftovers or stale bread from the kitchen and walk over to Lake Eola and feed the birds. Not only are we eating less but we are putting the food to a good cause as we get out of the office to walk over to the lake.

5. Time Runner – One employee has downloaded an App called Time Runner that lets him set up interval runs on his phone for his training program. There are many fitness Apps directed not only at working out but also keeping track of your nutritional goals.

Catriona Sweeney Harris: Our wellness tip is that employees from our office try to partner
together to hit classes at the gym - it makes for a great way to ensure you go!
