LOCAL RUNNING RETAILER AND RACE EVENT MANAGEMENT COMPANY TO TIME THE LARGEST RACE IN THE NATION

Track Shack will time more than 55,000 runners in Atlanta on Independence Day

ORLANDO, FL., May 15, 2009 – Track Shack and Event Marketing and Management International (EMMI), are pleased and proud to announce their selection by the Atlanta Track Club to time the AJC Peachtree Road Race, the second largest foot race in the world and the largest in the United States.

On July 4, 1970 in Atlanta, a group of just over 100 runners made history by running down Peachtree. Now in its 40th year, the AJC Peachtree Road Race is a 10K that began as a simple fun run has grown into one of the city’s signature events and favorite Fourth of July traditions. More than 55,000 runners from all over the United States are slated to participate this year.

“Previously, only runners in Time Group One and the seeded waves - approximately 7,500 runners - received timing devices with their race packets; but this year, all 55,000 participants will be officially timed,” said Tracey Russell, Executive Director of the Atlanta Track Club. “We hope that by providing official timing from Track Shack/EMMI for each runner, we are adding another motivator for many of the participants who lace up their running shoes just one day a year.”

Track Shack/EMMI, with experience in timing more than 900 races over the past 30 years, will be utilizing the D-Tag™ by ChronoTrack Systems™ system to eliminate the need to retrieve the timing devices when runners cross the finish line. Traditional forms of electronic timing are unfeasible for a large race like the Peachtree as chip retrieval after the runners cross over the finish line often causes bottlenecks of traffic.

“This is a great opportunity to incorporate this new timing technology into the largest race in the U.S,” said Jon Hughes, President of Event Marketing and Management International (EMMI), the official timing company of the AJC Peachtree Road Race. “We are looking forward to providing our timing expertise to this one-of-a-kind Independence Day event!”

The 40th running of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road race will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2009. The race begins at Lenox Mall and finishes on 10th Street near Piedmont Park.
