Staff Apparel Review – Handful Sports Bras and Activewear

Abby Slauter, Sales Associate at Track Shack

Have you heard of Handful? It’s a new line of active apparel available at Track Shack. As the name implies, this ladies’ athleisure line will support you whether you’ve got a handful or could use a little help.

If you’re a runner or walker who also likes yoga or barre, give Handful a try. I had the opportunity to test Handful’s reversible Flippin’ Awesome Tank which can be worn two ways to mix up your style. While I prefer to run in a sports bra or cotton shirt in warmer months, this tank would be a great piece to throw on after hot yoga and go to the PTA meeting or dinner with the girls while looking good and feeling comfortable. It looks stylish paired with the Squeeze Play Capris, which feature ruching and a higher waistband to flatter your shape. It also has a hidden pocket on the inside for storage needs.

My favorite Handful item is their famed Y-Back Bra, which Runner’s World ranks among its top sports bras of 2019 for good reason: it offers high-impact support for larger cup sizes with low-impact comfort. Handful calls the Y-Back “the right bra for C-to-D cups who need a little extra support.” I was skeptical because it looked too soft and comfortable to provide support, but, once I tried it on, I found that looks can be deceptive. I am very picky about sports bras. It has to have lining and shaping, but not too much. The ruching trend carries over to several of Handful’s bras, where it not only serves to flatter but also to prevent gaping in the cups. The Y-Back also has what I call the Y-approved front, meaning I can sweat in the YMCA and not inadvertently leave my headlights on, so to speak. Handful agrees; the removable pads found in all their bras are called Lights Out.  The pockets for pad insertion also cleverly double as stash pockets for nutrition, keys, or cash. My ideal bra also has to lie flat under a shirt or singlet, which the Y-Back accomplished.

While every woman has her own preference, I dislike bras with clasps and metal parts. but this is where the Y-Back really excels for me. Its straps are thick enough and its fabric is secure enough to offer support for larger-chested women without the need for clasps and boning that can chafe in hot weather. The COOLMAX lining in Handful’s bras wicks away sweat to further minimize chafing. Everything I tried in the Handful line ran true to size. I love that the Handful bra line offers several different styles so that women can choose what works for them. Check out The Closer if you are a fan of front-zip bras.

Handful is all about versatility. The Adjustable Bra not only offers adjustable straps for a customized fit, but its straps can be repositioned in three ways. The pads in Handful bras are removable and also stackable, an attractive feature for women who have had mastectomies or who have uneven cup sizes. As I did my research for this blog, I found that Handful Company is committed to helping breast cancer survivors, a mission that Track Shack shares. “We believe there is great healing to be found at the intersection of cancer and fitness,” Handful writes on its website.
